Ikea, one of the leading retailers of finished goods in the world, has installed a 1.125 MW solar array on their new facility in Renton Washington. It is the latest Ikea in the US to be powered by the sun and the largest roof top install in Washington State.
The developer, REC Commercial, selected Sollega’s FastRack (FR510) ballasted and mechanically attached hybrid solar racking system to mount Solar World modules on the roof.
The FR510 met the strict requirements dictated by the City of Renton regarding water runoff from the roof. Not containing any metals that could leech into the water table, the FR510 is injection molded from Ultramid glass reinforced polymer and does not rust, corrode or produce any toxic materials that can effect water collected from the roof.
The extreme undulations in the roof for water run off, as seen in the photos, was easily managed by the FR510’s ability to follow the contours of the roof. The installation of the Ikea Renton was completed in 2017 January by a crew of 15 in one month all during freezing rain and high winds. The unique design of the FR510, which requires no assembly on the roof, enabled the crews to install at a rate of 2 kW/person/hr. This project incorporated Sollega’s string inverter mount which are quick to install and utilize standard aluminum rail. Sollega designs, tests and manufactures solar mounting solutions serving the US and European market. The Fastrack is a patented, one-piece, injection molded solar racking system designed for both commercial low-pitch roofs and ground mount installations. It is made from BASF Ultramid Glass-filled Nylon, for strength and durability (25 year warranty) in a lightweight part.
