Talking SPI with Canadian Solar

Tell us about your company.

Founded in 2001 in Canada, Canadian Solar is one of the world's largest and foremost solar power companies. As a leading manufacturer of solar photovoltaic modules and provider of solar energy solutions, Canadian Solar also has a geographically diversified pipeline of utility-scale power projects in various stages of development. In the past 17 years, Canadian Solar has successfully delivered over 29 GW of premium quality modules to over 100 countries around the world. Furthermore, Canadian Solar is one of the most bankable companies in the solar industry, having been publicly listed on NASDAQ since 2006.

Your company will be exhibiting at SPI 2018, what is it that makes this an important event for your company?

Solar Power International is always one of the highlights of the year for Canadian Solar.  SPI is a gathering of the international solar tribe, a place where innovators and businesspeople gather to share best practices and learn about the latest advances that make solar even more economical and even more sustainable.  To that end, SPI is an excellent time and place for us to announce new products, to meet with customers old and new, and to showcase the value that we bring to the industry.

Highlight 2 or 3 products you will be showcasing at the event.

We will be showcasing some exciting new solar modules (shingled, bifacial and enhanced wafer), our line of inverters (string and skid-mount), and a variety of services (O&M, Turnkey).  Attached are pictures of the front and back of one of our new bifacial modules, which generates energy from the back side as well as the front.

SPI 2018 has many educational sessions & demo’s, is your company involved in any of them this year?

Yes! Ty Daul, President of Recurrent Energy Group (our subsidiary), will be speaking on Community Choice Aggregation on Tuesday from 2:30-3:30 in Room 206AB.  And also on Tuesday, Michael Avidan, Sr. Director of Origination and Structuring at Recurrent, will be speaking on C&I’s Role in Transforming Utility-Scale Procurement from 11-12noon.

When you get a chance to walk the exhibit hall floor yourself, what is it you will be most interested to see?  Any educational sessions you plan on attending?

On the exhibit hall floor, of course I check out the competition (modules, inverters, and services), but I am also always on the lookout for exciting new innovations in any category of solar – where’s the buzz?

When you book a booth for a tradeshow like this what are your expectations and what does your company hope to accomplish at the event?

As one of the most long-standing companies in the solar industry, Canadian Solar has deep relationships with many, if not most, of the other companies in the industry.  So SPI is about deepening and strengthening those relationships, as well as developing new relationships of course.  But above that, we want to make sure we are showing visitors to our booth how we add value and how we make Canadian Solar easy to do business with.  Our goal is for Canadian Solar to be your preferred partner, not just for modules, but for inverters and services as well.

A tradeshow of this magnitude is extremely busy and stressful for the staff of exhibiting companies.  Any fun things or places your team can suggest in Anaheim to help unwind?

Disneyland?  No, seriously, sleep and rest whenever you can.  And stay hydrated.
